  • Six Cookbooks for Foodies

The perfect present for 'foodie' friends and family - a new cookbook means a striking front cover, pages filled with beautiful (dribble-worthy) photography and originial, delicious recipes to recreate and treasure.

With plenty of tempting options to choose from, we asked the team at Edbury Publishing (the leading cookery publisher in the UK) for their recommendations! Here are 6 of their favourite...

    Nopi - Yotam Ottolenghi

"My Ebury recipe book gift would have to be Ottolenghi’s NOPI Cookbook. My favourite dish from the restaurant is the savoury cheesecake with beetroot and once I realised it’s not as complicated to cook as I thought it might be I had to have a go – it was a lot of fun to make and tasted fantastic, I’ve cooked it several times now. And then I discovered the butternut squash with ginger tomatoes and lime yogurt … cooked so slowly, the flavours are sublime. The book also makes such a wonderful gift - the package is gorgeous, with its lavish gold edges, matt paper finish, and its textured shakshuka pan design."

Rebecca Smart, Managing Director, Ebury Publishing

    Eat Beautiful - Wendy Rowe

"This is one of my favourite books of the year. It’s a great combination of practical tips, includes lots of information on nutrient boosting ingredients and is packed with seasonal recipes that are easy to cook, taste delicious and will make your skin glow. Two recipes that I keep going back to are the Salmon with Asparagus and Fennel and the Kale soup – both are quick and easy and what’s more they look and taste divine too. Eat Beautiful is a book I will be giving to lots of my friends this Christmas."

Diana Riley, Marketing Director, Ebury Publishing

The Avocado Cookbook - Heather Thomas

"I would recommend this gem of a book to anyone – even those who don’t normally spend time cooking! The Avocado Cookbook is great for health-conscious ‘clean’ eaters and vegetarians, as well as students on a budget. This lovely little book is chockfull of great ideas – and many of them can be prepared in minutes. From the ever popular Guacamole and Chilli, Chicken and Avocado wraps to Chocolate and Avocado Mousse and even Avocado Ice Cream, who knew avocados were so versatile? The price is so low you could even bulk buy – like avocado themselves!"

Carey Smith, Publishing Director Ebury Enterprises

Ottolenghi: The Cookbook - Yotam Ottolenghi

"I can’t think of a better present for all the foodie friends and family I will be seeing over the Christmas break than Ottolenghi: The Cookbook. I will also be using it a lot myself as so many of the delicious dishes make for easy entertaining. Boxing Day in particular is when we are all ready for some different flavours after the excesses of the day before so I know I’ll be making up some delicious salad platters. I’m thinking french beans and mange tout with hazelnut and orange and roasted aubergine with saffron yoghurt will definitely go down a treat!

Caroline Butler, Senior Marketing Manager, Ebury Publishing

Rick Stein's Long Weekends - Rick Stein

"As the cold nights draw in, the cookbook I will be turning to will be Rick Stein’s Long Weekends. I loved the TV series, and this book is wonderfully evocative of the sights, smells and flavours of each of Rick’s destinations – a fragrant mussel pilaf from Thessaloniki, a spicy chicken piri-piri from Lisbon, a delicate Sicilian risotto from Palermo, a classic apple strudel from Vienna.  A perfect gift to transport you from the depths of winter to sunnier climes."

Cat Dowlet, Key Account Manager, Ebury Publishing

Mary Berry's Foolproof Cooking - Mary Berry

"Around Christmas I want a recipes I can trust, and expert guidance on how to cook for in-laws with minimal stress! This year I’ll be turning to Mary Berry’s Foolproof Cooking - all the classic recipes I’ll need, failsafe methods, and Mary’s tips and tricks to make my life a bit easier. The Express Bacon and Pesto Pasta is just right for a cosy supper on a cold night and Brioche Bread and Butter Pudding is perfect for showing off a bit in front of friends. It’s such a beautiful book too – the perfect gift for anyone who loves Mary and loves to cook."
