The Going Out-Out Top
Often, when we're dressing up to go 'out out' - and by that, of course, we mean a proper night of drinks and preferably dancing - we tend to reach for a dress or jumpsuit. They're simple, one-stop party pieces after all.
However, making a comeback on the catwalks of Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen, is that sartorial relic: the going out top. The nineties were the pinnacle of the trend. Teamed with low-rise jeans and kitten heels, it was the outfit of choice for most party-goers. But if memories of the ‘jeans and a nice top’ dress code make you shudder, fear not.
The going out top has been reinvented. For one, sleeves are no longer a rarity, in fact they're a style feature, as with our Cape Sleeve Top. You can still flash some skin, just try showing off your shoulders instead (the Erica Ruffle Knit Top is perfect for this).
Some sparkle is still welcome, but it's a far more subtle sophisticated with metallic threads and surreptitious sprinklings of sequins. Texture - try a velvet cami - plays a role, too.
Thankfully, we now have a multitude of jeans in our style arsenal, too, so we're not stuck with hipsters. In fact, we can forgo the denim entirely in favour of luxe going out trousers (think wide-leg satin styles, or velour joggers) or your favourite leather leggings, not just in black but forest green or a rich wine red.
An oldie but a goodie, we hope the going out top is here to stay…
