Your book, ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k’, is a practical parody on Marie Kondo’s best-selling book and the de-cluttering movement. Can you explain your philosophy, in a nutshell, for us?
My book is all about mental de-cluttering—about conserving your time, energy, and money for the things that make you happy, and doing away with all the rest. Crucially, it’s also about doing all of this while NOT becoming an a**hole, so you don’t have to feel bad about it. It’s called the NotSorry Method.
What is your top tip to unwind?
I’m partial to a bubble bath and a glass of red wine, accompanied by the latest issue of US Weekly. Xanax optional.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Never put anything in writing that you wouldn’t want to see on the front page of the newspaper. Oops.
What would you tell your 18 year old self?
Oh, sweetie, it gets better. So. Much. Better. And your husband is adorable.
We think female friendships are something that should be treasured and celebrated. What quality do all your friends share?
My girlfriends are frighteningly intelligent and, equally important, they know how to have a good time.
Fantasy Girls’ Night Out. You get to choose six women – dead or alive – to spend the evening with. Who? And where do you go?
I’d go out to a comedy club with The Golden Girls: Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia. We’d be there to see my friend Jen Kirkman do stand-up and the six of us would go back to the girls’ house afterward to drink cocktails on the lanai in our pajamas, talk about sex, and trade witty banter.
Book you wish you’d written?
Not That Kind of Girl (Lena Dunham)
Film you’d like to see a sequel of?
Clue. Tim Curry is everything.
What are you listening to at the moment?
My husband singing “Hotline Bling”
Best holiday destination?
I’m a fan of the tropics. As such, I’ve arranged to spend my winters in Las Terrenas, a little town in the Dominican Republic. Highly recommended!
Sunrise or sunset?
Spring or autumn?
When was the last time you laughed out loud?
I don’t go an hour without laughing.
What word do you overuse?
Lately? Um….I suppose it’s the f-word.
The aforementioned US Weekly.
What is the one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?
I find Neil Young’s voice sexy.
